I grew up in Calgary, and this is where I current live and work. Counselling is a second career for me, but not a “second choice”. I was inspired to change careers through my experiences working with the people on my teams, and my own experiences with therapy.
My first career was in software development. I worked as a developer, mentor and leader. I always enjoyed the role of mentor for my ability to help teach new developers how to become more capable using the frameworks we worked with. As I moved into leadership roles, I found myself dealing with helping people achieve their career and life goals. In regular individual meetings, I found myself helping people find solutions to the challenges that they were facing in the workplace and personal lives.
My own experience of therapy was a journey in its own right. It was a wonderful process of coming home to myself. It wasn’t easy, and I was glad to have my therapist walking with me as I sorted my own issues out.
I believe that we all have the ability to find our best answers. Sometimes those answers have gotten lost amongst all the other disruptions in our lives. It can take some time and reflection to find them. As a therapist, I work with you to make the therapeutic journey home successful. I get to know your values and beliefs, and that helps me create an approach that is tailored to your unique needs.
I use a combination of approaches to therapy, drawing from Rogers, Cognitive Behavioural, Narrative, Mindfulness and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) therapies as needed.
For a variety of reasons, not all clients are able to travel to our clinic. To support those clients, I offer access to online counselling as an option.
I am a Canada Certified Counsellor (CCC), registered with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP, 2016) from Yorkville University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (1990), from the University of Calgary.
I have also been a volunteer peer worker in supporting individual members of the transgender community in their gender transitions.
